In 2011 ten percent of the graduating seniors from Georgia Southern University were Education Majors. That is the second highest percent for the school. The college of Education at Georgia Southern has quite a reputation to live up too. It is known for the rigorous courses that at the end of their four years the students are able to then go and excel in the classroom. This is simply because the college asks a lot of their students and there for expects a lot out of their students. Each student who graduates from the College of Education has to uphold the reputation on their diploma, and that is not an easy task. When comparing school to decide if you this is the right program for you look at the program of study for each school. I pulled up the one from University of Georgia. The University of Georgia only requires their College of Education students to have one hundred and twenty two hours while Georgia Southern will require one hundred and thirty five. That is at least one semester difference. When looking at the major requirements Georgia Southern requires more hours in the classroom teaching and observing than University of Georgia requires. There is a few life science and physical science courses that Georgia Southern requires that University of Georgia does not require. These small differences are not going to make or break the teacher, but wouldn’t you as a parent rather have a teacher who is better educated as a whole in the classroom then a teacher who is not as well educated with the information. The University of Georgia also does not require as many core classes for their undergraduate students coming into the College of Education. So Georgia Southern has already a harder requirement for their students when they are first entering the College of Education and then there for requires more from their students . Georgia Southern is still noted today for their excellence in their training of teachers and they will continue to carry this title for many years.
