Upon enter college I wasn’t really concerned with which school offered the better degree program for my major. Upon doing a little research the top five schools that have a good public relations program were University of Georgia, Paine College, Georgia Southern, Wesleyan College and Shorter College. The top two as you can guess were University of Georgia and Georgia Southern. So I took the liberty of looking into what each program offers. For the most part everything was the same. To begin at UGA you’re only required 120 hrs, while at Ga. Southern you’re required 126 hrs. However when it came to the Science courses, at UGA they’re only required to have 7-8 hours, while at Ga. Southern you’re required to have 11 hours. I also noticed that at while at Ga. Southern you only have to take one math, at UGA in addition to that one math you’re required to take Statistics. Another big difference was that at Ga. Southern you’re required to have 4 hrs. and for Physical Education and at UGA you only need 1 hr. UGA also does not require any First-Year experience classes. The last two major differences was that for Major requirements UGA requires 40 hrs. and Ga. Southern requires 49hrs; lastly you need a 2.8 to actually get into the major program at UGA and a 2.35 for Ga. Southern. In a nutshell, both UGA and Ga. Southern have great Public Relations programs. However at the end of the day, Ga. Southern is more feasible and a little easier to get into. While on the other hand, UGA cuts some of the extra slack off and requires only 120 hours but it’s a little more difficult to actually get into the program itself. At the end of the day I would say Go Southern!
