I plan to transfer to Georgia State in the spring of 2014. I enjoy Georgia Southern, but I want to be closer to home. When it comes to education, both schools can offer me the same thing. I just like the distance between home and Georgia State more. For an upcoming year freshman, I would recommend them to attend Georgia Southern first and then transfer. One thing that attracted me to Georgia Southern was the diversity. Therefore I feel that every incoming freshman should have the same opportunity to experience diversity. When it comes to the core curriculum for undergraduate, the requirements are fairly the same. As I compared Georgia Southern and Georgia State, the core curriculum requirements were the same. Although at Georgia Southern, we had to take FYE, Health and two Physical Activity Courses. This was the only difference I seen between the two schools.
The main reason that an incoming freshman should come to Southern first is for diversity and distance. You experience diversity daily at Georgia Southern. The school is far from most places therefore the distance will give you the full college experience without having your parents around. Georgia Southern also has many organizations and greeks fraternities and sororities to join. There are many activities on campus that take place daily. We have a strong and large student body. The footballs games are exciting and the school spirit is always a sight to see. The chants that the students and alumni do are enthusiastic and entertaining as well. At Georgia Southern, we will begin to make long term friendships with many people you meet. The atmosphere at Georgia Southern is so warming and happy that this would be an ideal place to start your college life. Overall, Georgia Southern is an excellent school and will give you a great first year college experience.
