Caitie ThomasCaitie ThomasThere are the goods and bads of being an undeclared major. Everyone who has a major already probably thinks that because I am undeclared just to take the easy route through my first year or first two years of college. I am undeclared because I do not know what is right for me as a major yet. People, or the ones I know, usually have a major they know they want to go in to and if they don’t, they choose to be a business major because it is the “last resort” major. I am undecided about my major because I am just that, undecided. I think taking only core classes is a very smart move and I have loved most of them so far.
I researched the classes that are recommended at University of Georgia and to see the similarities and differences. My core classes here are pretty essential. I am taking the second level of English, a history, a science with a lab, a foreign language, and an elective. I chose to take a foreign language because it is required for a degree in chemistry. Now I am having second thoughts about being choosing that career path. The core classes at UGA are very similar but it seems like the requirements are a little harsher than here at Southern. A math that is required to take is 4 credit hours and fine arts and humanities are also required. I have not been told yet that I have to take a fine art to graduate but I am sure it is required like it was during high school.
To be able to graduate from University of Georgia may sound better on paper than graduating from Georgia Southern University but I could never leave Southern. I have made it my home here and have made wonderful friends and could not ever imagine leaving now. I have become so used to the classes here and how campus is set up and how to get around Statesboro. I cannot imagine myself at UGA, it is way too big. I will make the best out of the classes I have to take here before choosing a major.
